HBCU Tours: Elevating Vision, Honoring Culture

As the Black Educators of Snowden, we are proud to provide transformative opportunities for our students to explore Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country. To date, we’ve guided over 100 students on life-changing tours to institutions such as Morehouse College, Spelman College, Morris Brown, Clark Atlanta University, Bennett College, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A&T, Hampton University, Howard University, and even the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian.

These tours do more than showcase college campuses—they offer students a firsthand glimpse into academically rigorous environments rooted in Black excellence, legacy, and leadership. For many students from northern states, awareness of HBCUs is limited. In fact, fewer than 10% of HBCU students nationwide come from the North. We aim to change that narrative by exposing our youth to institutions where Black culture is celebrated and academic achievement is expected.

These experiences affirm identity, nurture pride, and expand what students believe is possible for their own futures. Students often express how empowering it is to see people who look like them walking in purpose, leading with confidence, and excelling in higher education.

Although our primary mission is to uplift and empower Black students, our work is inclusive of all backgrounds. We welcome every student who seeks to learn, grow, and be inspired by the richness of Black educational institutions and culture.

The impact is both immediate and long-lasting: students return motivated, informed, and equipped with a deeper sense of purpose, pride, and direction for their academic journeys.
